Welcome to Emerging Solidarity! We are a collective of advocates, dual survivors, and families directly impacted by Pennsylvania’s Felony Murder rule. Our mission is to raise awareness about the legal and social implications of this controversial statute.
In Pennsylvania, anyone convicted of second-degree murder faces a mandatory sentence of Life Without Parole (LWOP). This means that individuals are incarcerated indefinitely, regardless of their age, culpability, or efforts at rehabilitation. Critics argue that this harsh punishment violates offenders’ constitutional rights, specifically Article 1 § 13 of the Pennsylvania constitution. Shockingly, some of these offenders were barely adults when they committed the crime, yet they now face imprisonment longer than they’ve been alive.
As you explore Emerging Solidarity, you’ll discover the history and definition of felony murder, as well as how Pennsylvania diverges from other states and countries. Our platform features stories from men and women convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to LWOP, insights from families of incarcerated loved ones, and the experiences of dual survivors. Additionally, we delve into ongoing discussions and efforts to reform Pennsylvania’s felony rule, allowing for parole eligibility on a case-by-case basis.
We invite you to engage, share your thoughts, and join us in advocating for change. Together we Emerge, and in solidarity we rise.
